Otter Brewery launches Otter Black
June 12, 2025

Devon County Show’s ‘Ales from Devon’ tent unveiled the launch of a brand new stout. Otter Black (4.2% ABV), crafted by Otter Brewery, is a smooth and refreshing session beer that’s already making a great first impression among regional ale lovers. The Devon stout’s ingredients are sourced locally and carefully to provide a smooth and satisfying pint. The recipe features flaked and roast barley from Dartmoor, English Marris Otter malt and a blend of Willamette hops and classic English Fuggle to create a dark ale with a distinctive flavour profile.
Patrick McCaig, Managing Director at Otter Brewery shared his excitement about the launch:
“We’re so proud of Otter Black and what it represents. It’s a beer we’ve been working on for quite some time now and we have been so eager to share it. A great stout is made with great hops and barley – and this is exactly what we’ve got here. The dark and rich beer has already had such immense feedback and interest, so we’re excited to see where it takes us.”
One of the first pubs in Devon to serve Otter Black on their bar is The Drewe Arms, Broadhembury, owned by Rob and Natalie Peperell who declared:
“We think it’s sensational. We are one of the firsts pubs to serve Otter Black, so make sure you come down and try it.”
Otter Black is now pouring in pubs across the South West including Otter Brewery’s pub, The Holt Exeter. This is a proud moment for Devon’s brewing scene, and stout lovers have plenty to celebrate.
