HISTORIC VICTORY FOR OUR CRICKET TEAM
On a beautiful summers evening at Newton Poppleford, the Otters took to the field still searching for their first win. After a number of very close games this season, victory had still eluded us.
Postie and Patrick got the Otters off to a solid start with a partnership of 31. Then came a Boycott esque partnership between Ben and Leroy. Ben being given a dubious LBW and Leroy being bowled for 10 by a twelve year old.
Burgess came in next and hit a quick fire 13, followed by 8 runs from Fat Tony. Smith and Jones finished the innings off with an unbeaten partnership of 14. Top scorer was "extras" with 21 !!
With only 110 to defend, another tight bowling performance was needed. Everyone bowled. Standout performances - Ken carried his great form into this game with another solid start of 6 for 1 off 2 over's. Andy Jones figures on the night - 1 for 7 off 2 over's. Tim "The Gloves" Kellow kept wicket, taking a few more knocks for the team (never flinching).
Newton Poppleford came back at us in the second half of their innings with an unbeaten 25 from M Hill. Burgess came charging in with all his usual aggression and bowled as fast as could against a twelve year old, ending up with the best figures of the night - 3 for 12 off 2.
With a famous victory insight, a nervous last couple of overs followed, with A Smith bowling the final over, seeing us to our first EVER victory.
The team is on great form and I'm sure this will be the first of many victories.
